A Revolutionary Approach to Neck & Back Pain Relief

March 22, 2024

At Spine & Sport Physical Therapy, we're committed to providing innovative solutions for neck and back pain. One such groundbreaking approach is the McKenzie Method, a globally recognized physical therapy technique that has been making waves in the field of pain management. Developed by Robin McKenzie, a New Zealand physical therapist, the McKenzie Method is a patient-centric, comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic system that emphasizes self-treatment and patient empowerment.
The McKenzie Method is a 6-step process that includes prescription of therapeutic exercises, self-treatment, and monitoring progress. It focuses on promoting centralization of symptoms and eliminating pain through specific movements or exercises tailored to the individual's preferences. As symptoms improve, patients are guided through more advanced exercises, encouraging active participation in their care. This method is suitable for both those who have undergone prior non-surgical treatments and those who haven't had any treatment, making it a versatile option for managing neck and back pain.
Research has shown that the McKenzie Method is generally effective in treating adults with moderate-to-severe neck and back pain. The method is used to manage symptoms and signs of spinal conditions such as herniated discs, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and muscle tightness, among others. The method's versatility and effectiveness have been showcased in various real-world scenarios, from office workers to manual laborers, offering a pathway to recovery and resilience.
At Spine & Sport Physical Therapy, we're here to support you on your journey to reclaim your comfort and mobility. Contact us today to learn more about how the McKenzie Method can make a positive impact on your life.

At Spine & Sport, we're thrilled to introduce ASTYM therapy, a groundbreaking technique designed to enhance your physical wellness. ASTYM, a unique blend of traditional stretching and soft tissue therapy, aims to break up scar tissue and damaged soft tissues, promoting the regeneration of healthy tissues and improving function.
ASTYM focuses on the kinetic chain, addressing muscle and tendon issues that cause discomfort, rather than treating isolated areas. By stimulating the body's natural inflammatory process, ASTYM jump-starts healing, reducing muscle tension and improving range of motion. From plantar fasciitis to tennis and golfer's elbow, ASTYM has proven effective in treating a wide range of soft tissue dysfunctions, with high success rates.

Dry Needling Treatment

January 26, 2024

Spine and Sport Physical Therapy offers a unique dry needling treatment to help alleviate pain associated with various neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Unlike acupuncture, this procedure specifically targets anatomical structures and utilizes different treatments based on human anatomy and physiology.
The process involves inserting small, solid needles into specific areas such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and even areas near nerves and blood vessels. By doing so, blood flow is improved, tissue mobility is increased, and trigger points are deactivated. This helps to normalize nerve activity and can also be combined with electric stimulation for added pain relief and improved blood flow.
The goal of dry needling is to address the root cause of pain and restore balance within the body's various systems, including the skin, muscles, skeleton, nervous system, and cardiovascular system. This approach aims to not only alleviate pain but also improve overall function and mobility.
At Spine and Sport Physical Therapy, our skilled therapists utilize dry needling as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to help our patients achieve long-term pain relief and improved quality of life. So if you're looking for a natural, effective way to treat your pain, consider dry needling as an option. Contact us today to learn more about this innovative treatment and how it can benefit you.
